What do you do when your attic is filled with old boxes packed with photos? And when these photos together tell a remarkable story that you’d love to share with your loved ones? With great enthusiasm, you start assembling photo albums, one after another! Until you realize that you’d actually prefer something different. A beautifully designed, modern book, printed in an edition of 80, so you can give a copy to all your loved ones.

This is the story of my client, Dirk. He had a story to tell about his boat, the Bilbo, a catamaran he built himself in 1974. For ten years, he sailed around the world with family and friends.

Every photo, every receipt, and every memory had been carefully preserved. Together we bought a high-quality scanner and Dirk began writing his story chapter by chapter, selecting and scanning photos, which he then sent to me.

Step by step, we designed the Bilbo book together. The result was a 250-page book, printed on thick bio top paper and bound with a hardcover. Summer 2022 the book was finished and Dirk hosted a big garden party where the first edition was presented to his daughters.
