In a world in which consumption defines you, possessions become a reflection of the self. From store shelves and billboards products constantly promise us to increase our quality of life. Advertisements create a deceptive truth in which decay is simply non-existent.

In the video-installation Polarity Of Possessions I created a space for reflection on the complex relationship between human beings and their belongings. Aware of my own materialistic tendencies I investigated both the risks and values of material satisfaction.
An important source of inspiration for me was the 17th Century Vanitas Still Life. Because it succeeds so well in reminding us of our mortality and the risks of vanity, wealth and excess.
In stead of painting I choose to create a video-assemblage with present-day objects. By interacting with the objects myself I created a fluidity in composition as a metaphor for the fluidity of life.
The work has been displayed at the KABK Graduation Show 2019 and at LichtKunstGouda in 2019.
