In 2018, I lived and worked for three months at the Verbeke Foundation in Belgium as a graphic design intern. Verbeke Foundation calls itself an anarchistic, officially non-acknowledged museum. A place that openly critiques the current norms and rules in the art world.
Verbeke wants to allow decay, imperfection, and death into its collection. It wants to collaborate with nature. During this unique period, I designed a new floor plan, which was used for the exhibition Time within Time. I developed a color system where each part of the museum was assigned its own color, corresponding to the colors on the map. When unfolded, the floor plan also served as a large overview poster of the entire collection.
Next to the floor plan design, I also started working on an exhibition catalogue and proposed a redesign of the website. The conversations I had with the founder, Geert Verbeke, about collages and assemblages (he owns one of the biggest collections of collages, an art form very dear to my heart) led me to write my graduation thesis on this topic.
